Running Poker-Spy on Microsoft Vista
To fully integrate Poker-Spy with your poker room,
you must configure the poker room software to run in Administrator mode.
To configure the poker room software to run in Administrator mode:
Some poker rooms do not work properly with Vista and
will not log hand history files to disk. You can fix this problem by
following these steps:
-
Click the Start menu then select Computer
-
Navigate to C:\Program Files\{poker room name}
-
Right-Click on the executable program (.exe) for the poker room and
select Properties
-
In the Compatibility Tab, check "Run this program as
an administrator"
-
Click OK
What do I have to do to configure the software?
3 Easy Steps:
-
Configure your online poker room software to log the hand
history to your hard drive and play one hand at that poker room.
-
Start Poker-Spy. It will detect what poker rooms have been installed
on your computer and prompt you for the one you want to use.
-
Start playing poker!
Poker-Spy will begin monitoring
the action as soon as you sit down at a table. Once Poker-Spy detects a
completed hand (from the deal to the showdown), it will display the relevant information for
each player in the hand.
I installed Poker-Spy but I am not
getting any information when I am playing
The Game Tracker window does not come up:
-
Did you start Poker-Spy?
(OK - We had to ask!).
If not, you can do so by clicking Start | All Programs |
Poker-Spy | Poker-Spy
-
Are you playing Texas Hold'em?
Poker-Spy does
not support other forms of poker such as 7 card stud and Omaha.
-
Is logging configured correctly for your poker
room client? Follow the step by step instructions in the Poker-Spy: Poker
Room Selection dialog to verify your settings.
You can also verify your settings from Poker-Spy by selecting
View | System Information from the Poker-Spy Console
window. Make sure the Logging Folder path is the same as the path
configured in the poker room client.
Note to
TruePoker, Score Poker and ProCappers players:
Verify the log path in both the
poker room Lobby window and the Table windows to ensure they are the
same. Refer to the
Configuration
Steps.
-
Did you turn on logging? For some poker rooms,
like TruePoker, Score Poker and ProCappers, you must click the Log Play checkbox in the
Logs window every time you
sit down at a new table.
-
Is the poker room logging the current game to
disk? Some poker rooms do not log all games to disk. For example,
Party Poker does not log WSOP tournaments. Check your poker room
hand history folder to see if your table is being logged.
The Game Tracker window comes up but I do not get any
detailed information on each hand:
-
Did you enter or select your Nickname correctly? If you
do not enter your Nickname exactly like it is displayed at the poker
table, Poker-Spy will not know who
you are. Note: The Nickname is case
sensitive.
-
Are you playing any hands? Poker-Spy provides
detailed hand information only for hands in which you are dealt cards.
It will however continue to gather statistics on your opponents and
provide up to date graphs.
-
Did you select the correct
game type? When you start Poker-Spy make sure you select the
game type you are playing (play or real money).
Note for PokerStars
play money tournaments and Sit&Go’s:
PokerStars does not provide enough information to determine if a
Tournament or Sit & Go is real or play money. Poker-Spy therefore
treats all tournaments and Sit&Go’s at PokerStars (Real and Play
money) as real money games.
To
get around this problem when playing at play money tournaments and
Sit&Go’s, select Real Money from the Poker-Spy Poker Room Selection
window when playing in these types of games.
Automatic Calculator is not
picking up the cards at Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker or PokerStars
In order for the Poker-Spy Calculator to pick up the cards the
poker room table window needs to be at the default size.
Setting the Poker Room window back to the Default Size:

Note: If the Automatic
Calculator window is not appearing, click the Calculator icon in the
Game Tracker window to reopen the automatic calculator.
What are Poker-Spy Alerts?
Poker-Spy Alerts notify you of possible playing
errors by your opponents. These alerts are based on the number of hands
played by your opponents, preflop raising pattern and hands played
out of position.
See Poker-Spy Alert Window
for more information.
Are reports included?
Yes. You can review hands played in previous sessions and compare
your
statistical performance against all the players you have played
against.
See Reports for more
information.
Does Poker-Spy provide
player statistics?
Yes. You can view player statistics and compare your
statistical performance against all the players you have played against.
See Reports for more
information.
Is tournament play supported?
Yes. Tournament, Sit & Go and No Limit play are supported.
During these types of games, Poker-Spy will provide you with the information you need
to play poker competitively. Poker-Spy will provide a history of
the most recent hands played as well as allow you to graph the
performance of each player. Poker-Spy will not classify the players as
Loose/Tight and Passive/Aggressive.
Does Poker-Spy work at "play money" tables?
Yes.
This functionality is only available if the poker
room logs "play money" hands.
Poker-Spy gives me a lot of useful information - how can I best use it?
Review 'Getting the most out of...'
in the different screenshot sections on this site.
There are several books available on poker strategy. We
recommend the following three by David Sklansky.
Is this cheating?
Poker-Spy™ performs its analysis using the same information you receive
while sitting at the poker table. Poker-Spy does this by reading the log files supplied by the online poker rooms
themselves.
The major difference is that Poker-Spy actually remembers the action and
automatically recalls it for you.
Top professionals have amazing card memory - so can you.
Does Poker-Spy send hand information over the internet?
Poker-Spy does not send any information about your
or your opponents hands over the internet. For full details check our
Privacy Statement.
